Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of church is this?
PVCC is an independent, non-denominational church. That doesn’t mean we don’t work with other churches to honor God and serve our community; we do! It simply means that we are not a part of any formal denomination, movement, or network of churches.

What kind of people go to PVCC?
PVCC wants to be a church where people can be themselves, and not have to pretend to be “good church people”. It’s OK to be less than perfect here! Nobody is forced to look like, act like, talk like, or vote like each other – we embrace diversity within our church family.

We want you to experience a transforming encounter with God and his Word in authentic community with real people – people whom God has made, and is earnestly pursuing; people who are imperfect, realize it, don’t pretend to be otherwise, and yet earnestly desire to grow in Christ; people who are on a journey of faith, knowing from experience that the journey doesn’t always look as beautiful and lovely as we’d hoped; and of course, people in all stages of life.

PVCC should never be content looking inward at itself, but always striving to magnify Jesus. We will always serve others, giving sacrificially to each other, not looking out only for ourselves. We strive to be a church that is known for what we are for, instead of just what we’re against; a church making an impact in our community; a church of real people, for real people; a church that is helping people actively pursue their walk with Christ.

What should I expect when I get there?
The main entrance to the building faces Allisonville Road. When you come in, the sanctuary and Welcome Desk will be straight ahead, and Kids Kingdom will be to your left. The Men’s restroom is on your left and the Women’s restroom is on your right. Our offices are also located on your right. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available by the Welcome Desk.

You’re welcome to come a few minutes early, and stay a few minutes late! We’ve intentionally arranged our lobby to be community friendly, with cozy gathering spaces. Feel free to spend time in the lobby getting to know people.

Worship services generally last about an hour and fifteen minutes, consisting of music, Communion, a time of giving, and a sermon. You do not have to be a member or regular attendee to take Communion with us; we simply ask that you be a follower of Jesus. If you’re a guest, we also don’t expect you to give of your finances.

In addition, we have a team of volunteers dedicated to Sunday morning security. These volunteers make a point to keep an eye on our Kids Kingdom hallway, parking lot, lobby, and the rest of the building. While we can’t prevent or prepare for every possible scenario, we do our best to ensure the safety of all who worship with us each week.

What kind of music do you play?
At PVCC, we embrace several different musical styles, from classic hymns (usually played in a more contemporary style) to the latest Christian contemporary music. We try to be relevant, yet still accessible and doctrinally sound; we place a greater priority on content and the worshipful response of the heart than the packaging.

What are the sermons like?
Our sermons are almost always expository – meaning we open the Bible, examine a single primary passage, chapter, or even entire book, and seek to discover what it means for us today. Sermons typically last between 25-35 minutes.
